ICSI vs IUI Treatment: What’s the Difference?

ICSI and IUI are two very similar – yet different – types of artificial insemination. In this blog post, you’ll learn more about the differences between ICI and IUI with donor sperm in terms of success rates, cost, complexity, and more.
icsi treatment pakistan and IUI treatments are called artificial insemination because they are similar to fertilization through sexual intercourse. Treatments such as IVF and ICSI, on the other hand, are called fertility treatments because the procedures require a medical intervention to retrieve eggs. Both ICI and IUI can be performed with donor sperm. At Cryos Clinic, we have recently started offering ICI and IUI with donor sperm .
The main differences between IUI and ICI
In ICI, the sperm is placed in the cervix using a thin plastic syringe. ICI treatment can be performed independently, by a partner, or with the help of a fertility doctor.
IUI treatment: In IUI, sperm is placed in the uterus using a thin plastic syringe. Because the sperm is placed in the uterus and not the cervix, the procedure must be performed by a fertility doctor.
Based on the brief overview, there are two main differences between ICSI and IUI: the location of the sperm and who can perform the procedure. The difference in procedures also means that IUI is slightly more invasive than ICSI, as the sperm is placed closer to the egg. There is no difference in the duration, as both procedures take approximately 30 minutes.
The difference in success rates
As Genova fertility now offers ICSI and IUI treatments with donor sperm through our clinic, we are currently building our knowledge on the effectiveness of these treatments and look forward to sharing our results once we have enough data. As we are still in the early stages, we do not have enough data to draw any conclusions yet. Therefore, we have used several studies to illustrate the success rates of ICSI and IUI with donor sperm.
The most recently published results from the Danish Fertility Society show that iui treatment pakistan with donor sperm resulted in the following expected birth rates (fetus with heartbeat at scan at gestational week 7) per insemination:
Under 35 years: 19.1%
36-39 years: 14.1%
40-42 years: 7.5%
43+ years: 1.8%
Costs compared
The cost of artificial insemination and fertility treatment varies from clinic to clinic, as some clinics offer packages for a certain number of treatments, which reduces the cost of a single treatment. However, since ICSI is often performed by yourself or a partner, the cost will be lower. This is also the case at Genova Fertility.
